Starlet Kim Da-mi expressed excitement about her first TV series at a press event in Seoul on Jan. 30, just a day ahead of its airing. Her co-stars Park Seo-joon, Kwon Na-ra and Yoo Jae-myung also attended the event.
Based on a popular web cartoon of the same title, "Itaewon Class" is about youngsters who strive for success while fighting against social barriers. Kim plays a woman who is highly intelligent but suffers from sociopathic tendencies.
Kim's mystery film "The Witch: Part 1. The Subversion" in 2018, in which she showed impressive acting skills, allowed her to make her small-screen debut in the series.
Asked about why she accepted a role in "Itaewon Class," she said, "I read the webtoon first, and it was so interesting that I finished it in just three hours. I've never encountered such a character before, and I thought it would be fun to play."
She added, "I knew there would be many difficulties, but director Kim Sung-yun encouraged me to take liberties in creating the character in my own way."
