Director Kim Dong-hwi revealed details about the casting of actor Jang Dong-yoon at a press event for KBS' new period drama in Seoul on Sept. 30.
In the period drama, "The Tale of Nokdu," Jang plays a cross-dressing role. "There were concerns about who would be able to perfectly nail the role. I looked up and searched through a lot of young actors, and I came across Jang and got a hunch that he would be a perfect fit," Kim recalled.
"In terms of a cross-dressing role, I worried most about how to deal with [Jang's] Adam's apple, but luckily he barely has one," Kim added.
"We also tried various things and devoted a lot of attention to making him look like a woman through makeup and costumes, which complemented his overall look, helping him portray his role well," he said.
"The Tale of Nokdu" revolves around a man who disguises himself as a woman to live in a mysterious women-only village, and a woman who seeks to escape her apprenticeship as a courtesan.
The first episode of the drama is set to be aired later in the day.
